Pre-Existing Problems Policy
Principle
Our Union's role is to protect and support the needs of our financial members. The Union is only able to finance our endeavours through the collection of membership fees, and does not receive outside funding.
Our challenge is to ensure that our resources, paid for by the members, are used as efficiently and equitably as possible.
This will often mean that the use of our resources is prioritized to allow us to meet the needs of financial members, whilst encouraging new members to join and make our organisation stronger and better resourced.
Policy
For the purposes of this policy, a new member is defined as having less than three months membership.
As a general principle, the Union cannot divert resources away from existing members to take up pre-existing problems which new members may have had before joining the union. However, new members will not be sent away without any assistance at all.
New members will be offered the following options for assistance:
1. Initial advice through a consultation with an Organiser.
2. Some work may be undertaken on a fee for service basis.
3. Referral to an appropriate outside agency (if one exists).
4. Full assistance may be provided at the discretion of the Branch Secretary.
When more than one union member is affected by a workplace problem, the Branch Secretary may authorise full or partial assistance, depending on the nature of the issue.
I have read and understood the above. I agree to abide by the above.
