Working to Live - Bulletin 4
Since our National Delegates meeting in early June 2004, ASU members across Australia have met to endorse the delegates' recommended claim. The claim has now been overwhelmingly endorsed and so yesterday (1 July 2004) the ASU formally delivered our claim to Qantas.
In many workplaces members and delegates have served the claim on local managers and celebrated the beginning of our EBA 7 campaign by holding special events and activities. In Brisbane, members celebrated with morning teas at all worksite, while across Qantas there have been BBQs, cake days and other activities to mark the service of our claim. In some workplaces festivities will continue over the next couple of weeks in the lead up to the first EBA negotiation meeting.
So why 1st July 2004?
This year we chose the 1st July 2004 to serve our claim as it is the beginning of the new financial year at Qantas and marks the end of the 2003-2004 year in which we believe Qantas has made yet another record profit.
Our EBA 6 expired on 30 June 2004 so we are hoping our 1 July 2004 launch will herald a new beginning.
What's next?
The first EBA 7 negotiation meeting with the company representatives is on Tuesday 13 July 2004 in Sydney. The next Working to Live bulletin will be issued after the meeting. All Working to Live bulletins are available on the ASU website which includes up to date information on the campaign.
Negotiating Team ready to go
Our National Negotiating Team (NNT) was elected by delegates at the recent national delegates meeting in Sydney. The team represents most divisions in Qantas and our aim has been to also ensure there is State representation.
The NNT underwent a day long negotiation training session in Sydney on 20 Jun 2004 to prepare for our meetings with the company.
The ASU National Negotiating Team is:

- Denis Leetham - Melbourne Airport
- Malcolm Handley - Cairns Airport
