Are you part time and working excessive hours? Are you owed $$$$?

23 May 2008

The ASU EBA 8 outlines;

18.5.2 (a) All time worked in excess of 7.6 hours per day, 10 days per fortnight, 1560 hours in the first year following the date of the coming into force of this provision, or 1410 hours in any successive year, shall be overtime and paid at overtime rates specified in this EBA 8.

Prior to the introduction of iRoster, Qantas management were able to extract the total numbers of hours worked by part timers since their anniversary date, and we were able to monitor the figures to ensure that part timers that worked beyond 1410 hours in a twelve month period from the anniversary of part time employment were paid overtime. We have been advised that with the change of system the ability to extract this information has become extremely time consuming.

To ensure that part time employees are being paid correctly it is important that ALL part time employees monitor the hours that they work. We recommend that all part timers check that they have not worked beyond 1410 hours ,or accordingly have received the appropriate overtime payment.

Further, ASU EBA 8 states;

18.4.2 Where the hours worked by an employee in a part time position (including ordinary hours, shift extensions and overtime) exceed an average of 35 hours per week over the preceding 12 months, then the position will be converted to full time.

This information can be obtained from 26 payslips. We advise all ASU members to keep all records of payment from Qantas. If employees no longer have these records contact Qantas People Connect to obtain your required documentation.

If you believe that you have worked beyond 1410 hours and not received overtime payment or/and may have triggered a full time job please contact your ASU Organiser, Ms Jennifer Hobson on 3252 8666.

The ASU is in the process of arranging paid meetings to ensure that all potentially affected ASU members are advised and kept informed on this matter.
